An Update

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

Finally, another update. Only 2 months or so since the last one.

What has been happening?

Firstly, we had  a big storm in Newcastle. We escaped with fairly minor damage, a tree down at the front (luckily missing everything) and part of the fence down at the back. A lot of other people had a lot worse damage, and there was unfortunately 9 deaths. There was also a big tanker/cargo ship washed up on one of the local beaches (the Pasha Bulker). I got myself a chainsaw to chop up the tree, used it for one day, and it promptly stopped working. Took it back and got a refund. So not too bad, chopped the tree up for nothing.

Then life was pretty quite for a few weeks.

We got Liam’s first school report. He has been doing pretty well in Kindergarten, and the meeting with his teacher to discuss this was very good. She gave us a few tips to help him out with his reading, and he is doing well with everything. His soccer team isn’t going very well, they often lose by ~10-0. He still enjoys it though, because they did win one game and he has scored a goal.

School holidays came around very quickly. During the holidays, Mrs Smurfn and I have taken time off work to look after the kids. So far I have seen Shrek3 and Fantastic Four - The Rise Of The Silver Surfer at the movies, and been mini-golfing and go-karting. We have also had my brother and his family in town. We didn’t go away, but it has been great fun anyway.

During all this time my weight loss and exercise regime has continued. I am now well within the “normal” weight range for my height. I have had to buy a lot of new clothes. No longer am I an XL or XXL, I have been buying L size shirts, and M pants (plus 1 pair of S jeans - a little too tight, but they can do up without causing me to speak with too high a voice)

Back From Holidays

Just had a 2 week holiday. First week was staying with my family in Grafton. Kids got to play with their cousins, except some of them were away for the holidays. And I got to see my parents, and brother and sisters. Played squash, ate Easter eggs and had a good time, without too many family squabbles.

The second week was spent on the Gold Coast. Friends and us hired a house on one of the canals. It was great, TV in every room, BBQ, pool, boat/jetty.

They have a son a little older than Liam, and all the kids had fun. We went to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, SeaWorld, Wet’N'Wild and generally had a good time.

Ate and drank too much, so now have to get back in the gym.

One of the highlights was watching Team America. It is such a funny movie, I have had to buy the DVD since we got back. Haven’t watched it again yet, but will soon.
